Weekend in Providence, Rhode Island

Downtown Providence (Photo Credit: Will Hart)

Our 1 year anniversary was approaching, and everyone was like "weren't you together for much longer?" Maybe we quickly turned into that couple that seems like they've been together forever, but Marat and I wanted to celebrate this achievement. We worked hard and continue to grow together, and almost 2 years later, I have to say I am incredibly proud. So as a special treat, we hopped on a bus and rode to Providence, Rhode Island. Because why not?

Stay - West Side Victorian Condo

So, I'm kind of addicted to airbnb.com. I find it almost impossible to look at hotels anymore. I love to travel, and have traveled alone many times in the past. Finding bed and breakfast's can be difficult at times. Airbnb just makes it so much easier!

When you're immersed in new surroundings, sometimes it's nice to retreat to a place that reminds you of home. You can cook, (we actually purchased fresh produce from kind locals) lounge around on the couch, and just unwind after a long day of sightseeing. Also, I have a thing for Victorian homes. Especially ones that are remodelled to look like dolly houses! Amanda did an absolutely beautiful job and we truly enjoyed our stay there. Check out her listing here!

Bright and colorful, I felt right at home.
Bright, warm and inviting decor made me feel right at home!

Eat

West Side Diner

I love traditional style diners. I really do. They're also something that gives me that warm, familiar feeling. As we explored the streets with beautiful Victorian homes, we happened to spot the West Side Diner and decided to give it a try. That's usually how it goes down, but we were so pleased with the delicious food and amazingly friendly staff. I love getting to know the locals. They also tend to have the best advice on things to do, which makes my trip all the more adventurous!

Delicious food and friendly service at West Side Diner!

Seven Stars Bakery

I only ran in here to grab a hot latte and some fresh baked pastries to bring back to the condo. I kind of get stir crazy waiting for Marat to wake up in the morning. So it was either take a walk and be sweet with a surprise, or wake him like a 5 year old child who's too excited to start the day. He got the pastries.

Trinity Brewhouse

I feel like the best mode of transportation when taking in the sights is by foot, but it does get tiring. We decided to stop in at Trinity Brewhouse to unwind with some bar food and beers. Located in the heart of downtown Providence, it's a great place in terms of convenience when you're in between activities.

Do

Cable Car Cinema

A quaint and unique little gem, the Cable Car Cinema and Cafe was one of my very favorite spots. There's something wonderful about watching an independent film in a historical cinema house with a glass of wine in hand and your loved one beside you on a comfy couch seat.

Alex and Ani City Center

I love how community focused Providence is. It's a combination of big city meets small town appeal. As we walked through the downtown area, we found a huge ice rink that was actually full of chalk art and locals just enjoying themselves. I stood at the top of the stairs and took in the city, feeling so impressed by these people. What better way to connect than through creating art together? The Alex and Ani City Center always has different events going on, so no trip is ever the same!

WaterFire

We were lucky enough to have our trip scheduled during this truly magical event. Suddenly hundreds of people filled the streets along the river. The energy at WaterFire filled me with this newfound peace. Families, friends, lovebirds snuggling close as they awaited for the show to begin. After some time we explored the Arts Festival filled with local artist exhibits and handcrafted items, my favorite! One man actually put on a live glass blowing show for the visitors! (Sorry, I get excited.) The live music made Downtown Providence come alive. It was one of the most memorable moments we shared together, and made our anniversary simply perfect.

By the way, there are plenty of parks to relax at if you enjoy nature and a slower pace style trip. Anyway, I couldn't finish this post without including a mushy photo of us!
